Creating A Sacred Space In Your Home

Home is where the heart is… and where the gym, restaurant, office, yoga studio, and day care are. As things have changed in our culture, we are seeing how our homes have become the mecca for our entire existence. It’s important to have a sacred space to go and disconnect to connect, may it be for a workout, yoga flow, meditation practice, or a place to journal and dream. We caught up with Onzie goddess and yoga teacher Kelly Pender as she shares with us how she created a sacred space in her home.

What are the top three things needed for a peaceful home practice space?
For a peaceful and inviting home practice space, I love to have my favorite items to allow me to WANT to enter into the space. Think of cozy vibes and special items that make you feel connected to yourself as well as the space. For me personally, I love my essential oils, empowering crystals, palo santo, candles, special trinkets and gifts from my loved ones, oracle cards, my journal, plants (they're totally fake!), funky mirrors on the wall space, faux fur rug and all the pillows to feel warm and inviting. Allow yourself to carve out a little space in your home that you want to come back to again and again! Put on a fun Onzie outfit that allows you to feel GOOD and excited to move your body!
Where in your home did you set up your home studio?
I have my home studio space set up in a spare bedroom! I know it's not always an option to have a spare room to use in your home so other great options are to clear a corner in your bedroom, a space in your living room, move the furniture in another bedroom or room to truly carve out the space for YOU! It doesn't need to be big, just enough room to fit a yoga mat and your beautiful self to set up your sacred space.
How often do you roll out your mat at home?
I teach live classes almost every day. However, my personal practice is about 3-4 times a week. And sometimes that looks like me laying on the mat, pulling oracle cards, journaling, breathing, meditating and adding in a little organic movement. And other times it's a sweaty, power vinyasa with ALL the inversions!

What's the best time of day to do a home practice?
I love an invigorating flow early morning to start my day or in the afternoon for a nice movement break! If I want a more grounding, slow flow I like to practice right before dinner time to wind down my day. :)
What's your favorite post-workout at home meal (matcha, smoothie, coffee etc.)?
Right now my favorite post-workout at home meal is Chocolate Peanut Butter Banana Protein Oatmeal! I make the oatmeal and add in almond milk, 1 scoop of vanilla plant-based protein powder, sprinkle in cacao powder, mix and top with peanut butter, banana and honey!
What's your favorite Onzie gear to flow in?
My favorite Onzie gear to flow in is the Sweetheart Midi Legging set in Cyan. And when I'm in full on chill mode, the Divine Yoga Set is my faveee.
