Sacred Motherhood

What does it mean to be a mother? It means to be a life-bringer, a home-creator, a love-supporter. It means to see the best in others and create a foundation to help people shine. It means loving and honoring yourself as the mother and creator of your life. Motherhood is a sacred bond between us and the universe, bringing to life a sense of peace and divine chaos, all created within the foundation of unconditional love.

This Mother’s Day, we honor everyone we are blessed to call “Mom”. This unconditional love transcends all limitations. We sat down with the amazing mothers on our Onzie team and community to ask them what they love most about the sacred role of Motherhood.

What is the most rewarding thing about being a mother?
The most rewarding moments of being a mother is when you look your child in the eyes and they flash you an incredible smile. The deepest sense of LOVE shines through the both of us for a micro second. This feeling is one of a kind, it's priceless, it's whole and pure.
How does being a mother shift your gratitude for your own mother?
I remember my sons first birthday I picked up the phone to my own mother and said thank you to her. I didn’t realize until being a mother myself the hard work, dedication and love that my own mother had towards me. There was a new found respect for her and our relationship. Especially since my mother was a single working mother growing up. I have no idea how she made it through her hard days. Now that I am a mother I respect her in a whole new light. I continue to turn to her for her wisdom and strength everyday. I love her even more fully as my mother and Abuelita to my children.
How has being a mother shifted your perspective and gratitude for Mother Earth?
Becoming a mother has connected me in a deeper way to the universe; specifically I feel that I am one with Mother Nature in this process of life. There is an inner knowing that we as women are actually an integral part of Mother Nature.  Especially when my children were conceived and in developing in utero, I felt very tapped into this connection with pacha mama. This sense was even heightened when my daughter was recently born this fall. My “humanness” was actually a primal force. The “Ad Shakti” was felt all around me. A mighty force of the human body, being one with nature; procreating, cultivating human life. The ability we have as women, creating + nourishing lives through our own body is truly magical.

The best part of being a Mother is witnessing my children excel to higher planes in life - beyond what my dreams could have imagined. I can see the hard work of “mothering” pay off as I watch them become adults. Now becoming a grandmother has been even more amazing! Seeing my legacy live on through these small children touches my heart and soul everyday!! It makes life living for!!!

How does being a mother shift your gratitude for your own mother?
As a new mom, I have so much more love and respect for all the moms before me, especially my own mother. You don’t know all the sacrifices (and joys) of being a mom until you are one. My mom poured so much of her energy, time and love into raising me and my sister. A love I knew and felt, but now experiencing the same for my own daughter – it’s so unreal. Your “why” and purpose shifts.
It’s been so amazing to see my mom as a grandmother! It’s such a gift for my daughter to know and spend time with her and my mom is soaking in every moment.
What advice can you share with other new mother’s?
Being a mom is hard. Lean into your people, and accept help from friends and family. I was blessed to have a network of new moms sharing this journey with me.  It was so helpful to have my tribe to ask questions, vent, and share baby milestones with. Everyone’s journey is so different; be kind and patient with yourself!

What is the most rewarding thing about being a mother?
To know what it is to love someone more than you love yourself. To understand that love has no limits and that I was born to be my daughters mother and to be okay with that. And to also understand the bigger picture. All the things I used to worry about mean nothing, everything has a new meaning and it's so much better.
How does being a mother shift your gratitude for your own mother?
I now understand the love she has for me is unlike any love in the world and I appreciate her so much and what she sacrificed for me. I wish I understood it sooner but I guess that is why we go through this process as women. It is all part of the circle.
How has being a mother changed the way you see and love yourself?
I just feel that I finally understand my purpose. And that everything I do is for my daughter which makes me feel so strong and powerful. Being a mother has made me feel whole and I love it!
What advice can you share with other new mother's?
You are doing a great job. No matter what happens each day you are doing great. Also, you can only do what you can do. Give yourself a break because you are killing it! Last, don't worry about the laundry or social media... be present with your child, it all goes so fast.

What is the most rewarding thing about being a mother?
The most rewarding thing about being a mother is having a little person that resembles me. I can see that every time she learns something new it’s because of something she’s seen me do, or reacts to things the way I would react. For example, when she laughs she covers her mouth – or when she eats she shoves as much food into her mouth at one time as possible (unfortunately she learned this from me).
How does being a mother shift your gratitude for your own mother?
Being a mother makes me appreciate my mother [more than I already did].
Also it makes me really value and admire the level of patience that is instilled in her.
How has being a mother changed the way you see and love yourself?
Being a mother has changed the way I see and love myself because it has challenged me to new things that I am conquering every day.
When I got pregnant, I was so nervous like oh my goodness, I am not ready. But to see myself go through the changes and readjust to a new stage in my life has made me love myself in new ways.
What advice can you share with other new mother’s?
Some advice I can give to new moms is to take time out for yourself. It’s okay to take a break sometimes.

Rosalba: Office Manager

What is the most rewarding thing about being a mother?
The most rewarding thing about being a mom is the strength my two kids give me every single day. I know I can take on anything as long as they are by my side.
How does being a mother shift your gratitude for your own mother?
Becoming a mom was an amazing experience and it taught me to love and respect my own mother even more. She is my hero and I hope to be my kids hero one day as well.
How has being a mother changed the way you see and love yourself?
Watching my kids grow up every day and hearing them tell me they love me makes me very happy. I love and respect myself even more because I know I’m teaching my kids to be good human beings in many aspects and one day that will be passed on to their kids and so on.
What advice can you share with other new mother’s?
My advice to all the new moms out there is that I know how hard it can be to adjust to your new life as a mother but we are strong and we can do it. Mother nature would have never allowed us to become mothers if we weren’t capable to take on what that entitles.

What is the most rewarding thing about being a mother?
The most rewarding thing is being able to have a massive impact on someone’s life in a way that only a mother can do. It’s pure magic. There is no greater connection. Pure love.
How does being a mother shift your gratitude for your own mother?
You understand that everything you do is for your child. You will never sleep the same way because your mind and soul are constantly worried about your child.
How has being a mother changed the way you see and love yourself?
Creating life is no joke! It’s the most selfless thing a person can do. I love my body more than ever before. I am forever grateful that I was able to conceive.
What advice can you share with other new mother’s?
Cherish the mess and don’t miss the small moments! Your work / careers will always be there. Invest in your family.
How has being a mother shifted your perspective and gratitude for Mother Earth?
I’ve always been very connected to nature but now I’m even more so concerned because I want my daughter to experience Mother Nature the same way I did growing up.
